Board Training With LEAP Institute for the Arts, Colorado State University

LEAP Arts Board Leadership Entrepreneurs

As a board member, you are a key player in the success of your arts organization.

Are you prepared for this important role?

Image Arts Consulting and the Leap Institute for the Arts at Colorado State University are working together to help board members with fiduciary, arts advocacy, leadership and governance responsiblilities.

Program Description

Volunteer board members have great enthusiasm, but there are few opportunities to learn the skills of effective arts leadership and advocacy. Colorado State University’s LEAP Institute for the Arts offers training for Arts Board Leadership Entrepreneurs (ABLE) and grants board members the opportunity to become effective arts leaders.

Fellows attend a series of 5 sessions in summer 2015 taught by qualified experts in arts leadership and cultural management. Training includes fiscal responsibility, governance, fundraising, program evaluation, and additional board leadership topics.

Each session includes learning materials and instruction, networking, and a light dinner. Program tuition also includes one consultation with the program instructor at your organization’s site and a certificate of achievement to celebrate your success.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Apply a range of management skills and leadership styles to direct organizations and projects.

  • Envision funding strategies in support of arts activities and events.

  • Speak effectively and eloquently about the essential value the arts bring to community life.

  • Use basic financial documentation skills for decision-making.

  • Increase project evaluation abilities.

  • Gain a better understanding of board fiscal responsibility.

  • Develop the basic skills of strategic and succession planning.
